The CHEST Foundation and Allergy and Asthma Network, in partnership with the American College of Allergy, Asthma; Immunology (ACAAI), have developed the first iteration of a shared decision-making tool for adults with severe asthma.
This tool has been created for patients and clinicians to work together to improve self-management skills, choose the best treatment plan and increase adherence. This patient-centered approach in the clinical settings improves patient satisfaction of care and overall outcomes.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Clinicians and the caregivers work collaboratively within the tool. The patient identifies his or her preferences and values while the
clinician provides patient’s biomarkers. This process narrows down the patient’s personalized options.
- Targeted therapies + shared decision = personalized medicine.
